HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 196407133bu Minutes of the Board of County Commissioners July 13, 1964 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session on Monday, July 13, 1964, at 8:00 o'clock P.M., in the Commissioners Room in the Courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C., to continue discussion of the proposed 1964--1965 budget. Members Present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey Bennett, Gordon Cleveland, Henry S. Walker and Carl M. Smith. Members absent: None. E. M. Lynch, Clerk of Court; Betty June Hayes, Register of Deeds; Cashe Boggs, Dog Warden; and G. Paul Carr, Superintendent of Schools each presented his budget request to the Board. These items were taken under advisement. The Board then discussed the overall budget and gave tentative approval to the 1964 tax rate. No final decision was reached on this matter. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned to meet on July 15, 1964, at 8:00 o'clock P.M. Donald Stanford Chairman Betty June Hayes, Clerk S. M. Gattis, Acting Clerk Minutes of the Board of County Commissioners July 15, 1964 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session on Wednesday, July 15, 1964, at 8:00 o'clock P.M., in the Commissioners Room in the Courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C. Members Present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey Bennett, Gordon Cleveland, Henry S. Walker and Carl M. Smith. Members absent: None. Consideration was given to the 1964--1965 budget and the 1964 tax rate. After considerable discussion, the 3oard decided that the tax rate would be $1.12 per -hundred'. The County Accountant was directed to draw an appropriation resolution'placing into effect the various budgetary allocations approved by the Board, and, also to draw a tax levy resolution setting the 1964 tax rate at $1.12 per hundred . These resolutions are to be presented for adoption at a meeting of the Board to be held July 27, 1964, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Upon motion of Commissioner Smith, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, and unanimously adopted, the Board requested that the County Board of Education have the plans for the proposed Stanback School re-worked to reduce the cost of same to an amount closer to the amount available. The Board instructed the clerk to write the County Board of Education and request that the White Cross School property receive adequate care and maintenance while it is not in use. Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, and unanimously adopted, the Board decided to re-activate the Heyman Committee to study school construction needs through,.1970.
