The list of each member's term dates will be emailed to all members. MONTHLY MEETING ATTENDANCE RECORD: Confirmed through approval of meeting minutes. ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD: Current Vacancies: 1. Currently have 2 vacancies on ASAB —Town of Hillsborough and Non-Municipality positions are open. 2. Lucia Wellborne will be finishing her 2nd term June 30, 2024.Animal Welfare & Advocacy Position will be open then. OLD BUSINESS: None INFORMATION ITEMS: OCAS Developments Presented by Dr. Sandra Strong 1. Tiani Stamey was introduced to the ASAB and is the new Assistant Director for OCAS. She previously worked at OCAS in multiple positions and most recently directed the Chatham County Animal Services Department and is enthusiastic about returning to OCAS. 2. Dr. Strong reviewed the records and reports that COAS has not had to euthanize any patients due to lack of space to keep them since 2016. 3. Dr. Strong met with Tara May(Clerk to the BOCC)to discuss ASAB member absentee policy—her guidance is to be as accommodating as possible since these are voluntary positions but refer consistent absentees to her for decisions on dismissal recommendations. 4. The BOCC is working on strategic goals, this applies to OCAS as follows: a. One Health Initiative—including considering if OCAS can be involved with health Department events. b. Human-animal bond and its role in public health. c. Rabies prevention and management. d. Community cat population management. e. Pet overpopulation management—spay/neuter assistance. f. Pet rehoming as residents need. 5. OCAS goal is to be at or above 90% live placement rates and we tend to be at this level now. This rate was in the 50-75% range between 2009-2016. 2 of 3 6. Paws in the Pasture event on 05/25/2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Mebane—this is a fundraiser for OCAS with activities, food trucks, and adoptable pets. 7. Currently marketing the kitten foster program for community members to socialize kittens and keep them out of the shelter facility. 8. County Manager, Bonnie Hammersley, is retiring—this is the position to which Dr. Strong reports as Director of OCAS.
