BACKGROUND: The charge of the Animal Services Hearing Panel Pool is to hear appeals concerning violations of the Orange County Code of Ordinances, Chapter 4 ("Animal Control Ordinance"), as provided in the Orange County Code of Ordinances, Section 4-53 Appeals, and also potentially dangerous dog appeals as prescribed by North Carolina General Statute §67- 4.1(c). It is the responsibility of pool members to conduct fair and impartial hearings for these appeals and members will receive training in both law and proper procedure prior to participating in a hearing. The Board of County Commissioners appoints twelve (12) members, with representation from various fields. The Towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough each appoint two (2) members from their respective jurisdictions. Contribution to the diversity of viewpoints on this board: It's important to have a diverse range of viewpoints on the ASAB to ensure that all perspectives are considered when hearing concerns and making recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners. As either the Chapel Hill or an at-large representative, I would bring enthusiasm and a fresh outlook to the ASAB. I'm on the younger side of the age ranges, and I have a lot of energy--especially for things I am passionate about (i.e., animals). While still relatively new to the "Tar Heel State"--I moved to Chapel Hill from Virginia in 2017 and am originally from Missouri--I have been a member of the Animal Services Hearing Panel Pool since March of this year, and I would love the opportunity to be more involved.
