The Pat Sanford Grant was awarded to Kat Weiss on behalf of Orange County Partnership to End Homelessness. Data shows that homeless people with pets tend to Page 2 of 6 have better quality of life (fewer addictions,better mental health, less likely to be victimized). 2. Martha Bordogna (County Attorney who is legal advisor for OCAS and 4 other departments)presentation to ASAB to discuss advisory board policies and procedures (document attached). Boards are present to create a liaison between the community and the Orange County Board of Commissioners (BOCC). ASAB should present one voice to the BOCC to be most effective and functional and is uniquely positioned to be networked with various animal-related stakeholders in the county. There are still Hearing Panel Pool vacancies that need to be filled. There are multiple types of hearing panels (for example - dangerous dogs, kennel permits, nuisance dogs) and ASAB members need to chair these panels. 3. ASAB Annual Report/Work Plan will be sent to BOCC—copies distributed to all members. Animal Services Advisory Board: 1. Term Limits—Lucia Welborne will be cycling off of the board at the end of her 2nd term in June 2024. New applicant being considered for this position—Annie Goldberg. 2. Debby Hill, Mike Delafield, Tracey Little and Lynne DuBose are coming to end of first term in June 2024 and need to confirm desire to continue to 2nd term. Old Business: None Information Items: OCAS Developments from Director, Dr. Strong 1. January 20th—OCAS is partnering with Cone Health in Mebane for Healthy Tails Adoption Event 2. In February OCAS is working with a mobile home park for TNR and rabies vaccination for community cats. 3. Orange County Roadshow January 3 1" and February 1". This is a quarterly event for the residents to learn about all county services OCAS will be presenting there. 4. Ashley Miller has been promoted to Animal Control Manager, and internal interviews being conducted to fill her former role as Training Officer. There will be an ACO Page 4 of 6 vacancy once interviews conclude and an internal promotion is done to move a current ACO to the TLO position. 5. There is a Chronic Public Nuisance Appeal scheduled for a dog who is constantly at-large and barking. The hearing will be at OCAS on January 29, 2024 6. Low-cost rabies and microchip clinic scheduled for February 17, 2024 7. Lee Pickett and Judy Miller attended annual holiday potluck at OCAS. 8. Greg Ceseretti,Assistant Director of OCAS,passed away in December and his position is now vacant. This has resulted in Holly Pittman and Dr. Strong having to prepare the annual budget this year. Discussion is underway for memorial bench or other memorial tribute.
