All residents had trouble speaking and understanding but they appeared to have a good relationship with the staff and actively tried hard to communicate. 2.Did residents say they receive assistance with personal care activities? (i.e. brushing their teeth, combing their hair, inserting dentures or cleaning their eyeglasses) Yes 3.Did you see or hear residents being encouraged to participate in their care by staff members?Yes 4.Were residents interacting with staff, other residents & visitors? Yes 5.Did staff respond to or interact with residents who had difficulty communicating or making their needs known verbally? Were residents asked their preferences or opinions about the activities planned for them at the facility? Yes 16. Due to the level of dementia for these residents, they do not manage their own finances. All residents have family in the area and they are visited by their families who buy extras for them and help with choices. Everyone seemed quite comfortable about the situation. 18. Residents are unable to communicate on the phone. 19. Heather thought it would be great if religious groups, civic or volunteer groups came by and visited with the residents. That is not not taking place. 20. The residents cannot have a council due their dementia but the families are quite active. 15a. Was a current activity calendar posted in the facility? Yes 15b. Were activities scheduled to occur at the time of your visit actually occurring? Yes 16. Do residents have the opportunity to purchase personal items of their choice using their monthly needs funds? N/A Areas of Concern Exit Summary Are there resident issues or topics that need follow-up or review at a later time or during the next visit? None noted during this visit. We will try to visit with residents alone as well at future visits. Discuss items from “Areas of Concern” Section as well as any changes observed during the visit. Give summary of visit with Administrator or SIC. Does the facility have needs that the committee or community could help address? This is a new facility and is extremely clean, modern and to all appearances well run. The residents were finishing lunch as we arrived. After touring the facility we sat with the residents, Heather and the assistant, and visited for about 45 minutes with them all. All residents had trouble speaking and understanding but they appeared to have a good relationship with Heather and staff and actively tried hard to communicate. The residents indicated they would like us to come again and “chat” with them. 1/2015
