BACKGROUND: One member of the Historic Preservation Commission, Ms, Betsy Underwood, is seeking, and is eligible for, reappointment, There will be an upcoming vacancy when the second term of Dr. Carolyn L. Connor expires. However, a qualified applicant has not been found to replace Dr. Connor and advertising is being done. Ms. Underwood is' currently the HPC chair and has expertise in the field of historic preservation. She has maintained good attendance records, (See enclosures.) is eligible to serve another terr and has agreed to do so. Dr. Connor is finishing her second termLanTper County guidelines is ineligible to begin a third term sequentiallY• The Historic Preservation Commission participates in the Certified Local Government program. All HPC members must have personal, professional, and organization experience related to historic preservation. Examples of related experience include: restoring or rehabilitating an older house or place of business; involvement in community preservation organizations, historical societies, or other groups working to promote historic preservation; involvement in historic preservation as a professional architect, historian, architectural historian, archaeologist, landscape architect, planner, anthropologist, curator, conservationist, or folklorist; or other activities that are related to historic preservation. The current applicant, Debbie Friend, does not meet the appropriate criteria. Staff would like to postpone appointing a new member until next mont in or er o complet sufficient outreach to find a more qualified candidate. Please convey this to the Board of Commissioners for their consideration in March, to prevent any gaps in our membership.
