PURPOSE: To approve amendments to the Orange County Code of Ordinances, Section 18-
154. — Parks and Facilities, to include the updated name of the Soccer.Com Center, as well as
including new County park facilities.
BACKGROUND: The current County Code of Ordinances prohibits concealed or non-concealed
weapons on County recreational facilities. Since the last amendment to Section 18-154 in 2012,
the Eurosport Soccer Center has undergone a name change to the Soccer.Com Center, which
needs to be reflected in the Code of Ordinances. New facilities have also opened, calling for the
addition of Blackwood Farm Park, Hollow Rock Nature Park, and Seven Mile Creek Natural Area
within this section of the Code or Ordinances.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item.
SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is applicable to
this item:
• GOAL: CREATE A SAFE COMMUNITY
The reduction of risks from vehicle/traffic accidents, childhood and senior injuries, gang
activity, substance abuse and domestic violence.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: There is no Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal
impact associated with this item.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve and authorize the
Chair to sign the attached resolution adopting the proposed amendments to the Code of
Ordinances Section 18-154. — Parks and Facilities.

RESOLUTION OF AMENDMENT
A RESOLUTION AMENDING CHAPTER 18 OF THE ORANGE COUNTY CODE
OF ORDINANCES
Be it Resolved and Ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Orange County, North Carolina:
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners has determined there is a need to update existing
language of Section 154, Chapter 18 of the Code of Ordinances; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners has determined an amendment is necessary to maintain
consistency in the Code of Ordinances and to update facility names and add new facilities for the
statutorily authorized restrictions on the possession of weapons on Orange County property.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED, that the Code of Ordinances, Orange County, North
Carolina, Chapter 18, is hereby amended by clarifying the language of§18-154 that prohibits the
possession of weapons on County property, which amended language reads as shown in the
attached revised Ordinance.
This Amendment shall become effective upon adoption.
