Over 800 residents reside in nursing homes and adult care homes in Orange County. The Triangle J Area Agency on Aging Ombudsman Program is holding a Community Advisory Committee Education and Appreciation Day for the dedicated volunteers of Orange County (and other counties in our region)on June 5.2002. There will be events at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill, and the Agency would like to provide the affached proclamation of appreciation to each member of the Community Advisory Committees. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact with approval of the proclamation. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board designate June S, 2002 as Community Advisory Committee Appreciation Day in Orange County and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS PROCLAMATION Community Advisory Committee Appreciation Day Whereas: Nursing Homes and Adult Care Homes have accepted the responsibility for providing long term care health services to the citizens of our community; and Whereas: Over 800 resitlents reside in long term rare facilities In Orange County:and Whereas: The quality of care and quality of the of long tens care residents depend upon the daily, conscientious services and hands-on care provided by long term rare facility staff, as well as the honoring of the federal and state Residents'Bill of Rights; and Whereas: Nursing Home and Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committees,whose members are appointed by the County Commissioners, serve as grommets ombudsmen and advocate for the rights of residents, as wall as the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of these residents;and Whereas: Nursing Home and Adult Care Home Community Ativlsory Commlgeee are Telne l volunteers who collaborate closely won residents,fatuity members,facility stag,the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, me Orange County refreshment on Aging, and regulatory agencies to ensure quality are in full recognition of residents dignity and lndlvduality;and ' WM1al These Committees serve as the nucleus for increased Community Involvement with long term care facilities and their residents; and Whereas: The Committees promote community education and awareness of the needs of long term are residents,and work forward keeping the public informed about aspects of long term care; and Whereas: The committees apprim themselves of the general conditions under which residents are residing in me homes,and work far the heal interests of these residents; Now,Therefore,do we.the Orange County Commissioners,hereby proclaim June 5,2002 as Community Advisory Committee Appreciation Day And urge all cltizens to join with us in this abomination and do encourage citizens to express appreciation for the advocacy efforts of the Nursing Horne and Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee members Me represent the public good far Orange County.
