OCAS Updates
o Tenille Fox (Communications Specialist)presented to the board about her role at
OCAS—responsible for press releases (eg—rabies cases,public advisories), donation
acknowledgements, social media manager(Facebook is primary modality), news
media liaison, advertising &promotions, webmaster, educational articles, liaison for
database management system(Chameleon), grant procurement and reporting, I.T.
liaison. Uses print, digital and mailing to get messages to public. This presentation
was recorded.
o Discussion about Community Giving Fund being antiquated—acknowledgements
need to go through County Finance Dept, donations to multiple departments can't be
made on the same day
o Dr. Strong's updates
■ presentation to Board of County Commissioners by Lee Pickett yesterday was
well done
■ Pet food pantry surplus is low—will be sending out a request for donations
■ Buckhorn Flea Market—lots of puppy sales happening currently. Animal
Control officers are surveilling and educating currently and working towards
banning puppy and kitten sales at the market.
■ Working on annual budget currently—have increased staff pay to improve
retention

■ More puppies in the shelter than usual,but do tend to get adopted quickly
■ Current Orange County ordinance requires breeding permit and kennel permit
to sell puppies—she will present more on this at next meeting

Animal Services Advisory Board
o Currently 3 vacancies on board(Town of Hillsborough,Non-Municipality, At-Large)
o Brainstorming about ways to find more volunteers for board vacancies—use PR,
networking
Old Business:
o Applications for Hearing Panel Pool sent to all ASAB members—Dawn Roberts and
Mike Delafield have applied recently
o Confirmed that hybrid virtual and in-person meetings are possible for ASAB —
county manager needs to be informed at least 6 hours prior to meeting and public
notice with link needs to be provided.
o Still need to confirm if a member who is unable to attend in person can join virtually
and count as present
