SYKES FOR 28 YEARS OF LAW-ENFORCEMENT SERVICE AND AWARDING HIM HIS BADGE AND SIDEARM i i WHEREAS , Chief Deputy Jamison R. Sykes joined the Orange County Sheriffs Office as a detention G i officer on August 25 , 1995 and held the ranks of Deputy, Corporal, Sergeant, and Chief Deputy, serving in the Patrol, Civil, Courthouse Security, and Narcotics Divisions ; and WHEREAS , Chief Deputy Sykes served his entire career, with the exception of three years with the i Hillsborough Police Department, in the Orange County Sheriffs Office; and i WHEREAS , Chief Deputy Sykes ' service and dedication to the Orange County Sheriffs Office and dedication, service, and accomplishments in the field of law enforcement during his 28 years of service are hereby recognized and commended; and i c: WHEREAS , North Carolina General Statute 20 - 187 . 2 provides that retiring officers of the Orange County Sheriffs Office may receive, at the time of their retirement, the badge worn or carried by them during their service with Orange County; and WHEREAS , North Carolina General Statute 20487 . 2 further provides that the Orange County Board F of Commissioners may, in its discretion, award to a retiring officer the service sidearm of such retiring officer at a price determined by the Board of Commissioners ; and G WHEREAS , Chief Deputy Sykes has served as a member of the Orange County Sheriffs Office for more than 25 years and retired from the Orange County Sheriffs Office on May 1 , 2023 ; NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED by the Orange County Board of Commissioners as follows : 1 . Sheriff Charles S . Blackwood is hereby authorized in accordance with the provisions of North Carolina General Statute 20487 . 2 to transfer to Chief Deputy Sykes the badge worn by him during his service with the Orange County Sheriffs Office; and 2 . Sheriff Charles S . Blackwood is hereby authorized in accordance with the provisions of North Carolina General Statute 20 - 187 . 2 to transfer to Chief Deputy Sykes his service sidearm at no cost to the officer . BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , that the Orange County Board of Commissioners recognizes and thanks Chief Deputy Sykes for his dedicated service to Orange County and its residents .
