HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 19630617:313 The Board had requested that the Coroner, Allen Walker, Jr .j be present at their meeting on June 3rd for the purpose of further discussing with Mr. Welker and any other interested persons the present Coroner's System. Allen Walker, Sr, and Allen Walker, Jr, appeared and.expressed their opinions concerning the Coroner's System and the Medical Examiner's System. A discussion ensued following the Walker's presentation. Upon motion of Commissioner Smith, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, and unanimously adopted, the per diem of the Coroner was to be raised 20%. This raise is to become immediately effective. The following schedule of special meetings was adopted: 1. June 10th at 10 a.m. meet with the District Highway Commission 2. June 17th at 7 p.m. to commence a study of the 1963-1964 budget 3. June 18th at 8 p.m, to continue budget session. There being no further business this meeting was adjourned. Betty June Hayes, Clerk and S. M. Gattis, Acting Clerk Donald Stanford Chairman Minutes of the Board of County Commissioners June 10, 1963 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Monday, June 10, 1963, at 10 o'clock a.m. in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C. Members present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey D, Bennett, Gordon Cleveland, Carl M. Smith and Henry S. Walker. Members absent none. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss with officials of the Highway Department the proposed secondary roe'd program for the coming year. The Board was notified by officials of the Highway Department that this meeting had been cancelled, Jessie Trowbridge, Home Demonstration Agent, reported that she and her district agent recommended Mrs. Louise Reckenwold as a replacement for Mrs. Frances Denek. Upon motion of Commissioner Bennett, seconded by Commissioner Welker, and unanimously adopted, Mrs. Reckenwold was employed as Assistant Home Demonstration Agent. The salary to be the same as that presently being paid Mrs. Denek. There being no further business this meeting was adjourned to meet again on Monday, June 17th. S. M. Bettis Acting Clerk Donald Stanford Chairman Minutes of the Board of County Commissioners June 17, 1963 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Monday, June 17, 1963, at 7 o'clock p.m. in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C. Members present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, Gordon Cleveland, Carl M. Smith and Henry S. Walker. Members absent: None The purpose of this meeting was to commence study of the 1963-1964 budget. Dr. Howard Thompson, Supt, of the Chapel Hill School Unit, and members of the Board of Trustees of said Unit presented the 1963-1964 Current Expense and Capital Outlay requests. The Current Expense request for $178,247.00 is a per capita request of $42.00 based upon an enrollment of 4,247 students. Details of this request are shown in the budget filed with the Count Accountant by the Supt, of the Chapel Hill School Unit. budgethwhichiislfiledawirequestCOf $2 4c0o3.00 is shown in detail also in the A4 Discussion ensued with the Trustees and the Superintendent of the School Unit concerning their proposed budget. The Trustees and the Superintendent were advised' that the decision of the Board would be made known to them at a later date. Henry Rogan, Reid Roberts and Quentin Patterson, representatives of the Nauss River Soil Conservation District, requested that funds be made available to them in order to hire a part time secretary. They explained that no Federal funds were available to them for clerical help. The Board advised these representatives that they would take their request under consideration. Chairman Stanford read a letter from Robert Boyce, representative of the American Field Service. Mr. Boyce requested permission for the American Field Service to stage its annual fireworks display in Chapel Rill on Thursday, July 4, 1963. Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, and unanimously adopted, the American Field Service was granted permission to stage its annual fireworks display in Chapel Hill on Thursday, July 4, 1963. Gattis Chairman Acting Clerk Minutes of the Board of County Commissioners June 18, 1963 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Tuesday, dune 16, 1963, at 8 o'eloek p.m. in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. Smith and Henry S. Walker. Members absent: None Members of the County Board of Education were present. G. Paul Carr, Supt, of said Unit explained the proposed budget. After the explanation, a general question and answer session ensued. J. A. McMahon, a member of the County Board of Welfare, and James Wight, Welfare Director, presented the proposed budget for the Welfare Department. Discus- sion ensued. C. Members present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, Gordon Cleveland and Carl M. Smith. Members absent: Commissioner Henry. S. Walker . The purpose of this meeting was to continue discussion of the proposed 1963- 1964 budget. The Clark of Court, Register of Deeds, and County Accountant presented their budgets. These were all discussed. The County Accountant reviewed with the Board the remaining General Fund budgets. The Register of Deeds informed the Board that under G.S. 161-11.1 the Boards of County Commissioners are authorized to set the fee for the recording and releasing Iof federal tax liens. The maximum fee authorized is $2.00 for recording and $2.00 for the releasing of said lien. She suggested that the fee for Orange County be designated at the maximum fee.
