BACKGROUND: For a number of years, the Orange County Commissioners have issued proclamations for Older Artredrans Month and Senior Center Week. In 2002, there are approximately 15,500 Orange County residents who are sixty years of age and older, and 1,400 residents are over eighty-five years old. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with approval of the proclamations. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the proclamations designating May as Older Americans Month and May 12 through May 18 as Senior Center Week in Orange County and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamations. 2 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS PROCLAMATION OLDER AMERICANS MONTH WHEREAS, According to the latest population lignites.there are mare than iSw persons over 60 years of age in Orange County; and, WHEREAS, The President ofthe Unite]States has dwwlaret May as Older Americans Month; and, WHEREAS, Orange County is proud ofthe older adults who live here and wishes to show appreciation for what they contributed to Weir County,State and Nation;and, WHEREAS, All Orange County citizens enjoy the fruits of older persona and War labors aad are=plead to continue to make Orange County a good place in which to live;and, WHEREAS, Orange County also wishes to ad aside a special monti for recogNtion of the older segment of its cit¢eruy; NOW,THEREFORE, We,We Orange County Board of Commissioacm,join the GovernorofNorth Carolina and the president of We United States is PROCIA4ING May,2002 as OLDER AMERICANS MONTH AND,fuller,d0 eacourege all citizens to join us in honoring our older Americaus.
