RE: Blackwood Farm Park Phase II -Construction Project Progress Update
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide a status report on the ongoing Blackwood Farm Park
construction project.
As is the case with many construction projects around the nation and the globe, supply chain issues
have continued to wreak havoc with completion and with the onset of winter and wet conditions this
has exacerbated completion activity. However, there does appear to be good news with a possible
opening date now coming into view. Progress continues to be made and some of the supply issues that
have been evident for the last several months have now been completed.
Blackwood Farm Park construction began in August 2021 and is currently approximately 90% complete.
However, the remaining components that need to be finished are such that keep the park from being
able to gain a certificate of occupancy and be able to open to the public.
The project consists of a new entrance into the park off NC 86 and the widening of NC 86 for new
turning lanes into the park; a new parking area and loop driveway to the existing entrance (for special
events). The construction project also includes construction of an amphitheater to accommodate
concerts and performances, a large picnic shelter that can also double as a second stage, two vault
toilets, and a park office and maintenance area.
Of the remaining issues that need to be addressed prior to opening, a paving issue remains with the turn
lane on NC 86 and this and will be corrected in the near future.This one item may be able to be finished
without affecting the opening of the park. However, additional work is needed on the septic system
installation, rainwater collection and electrical connections and hardware.

Based on the expected completion of these final items, we can now project a soft opening for early-April
2023 (barring further issues), and planning is now beginning for a Grand Opening ceremony later this
spring.
Please note this contract does not include renovation of the historic farmhouse which is underway
under a separate contract, along with the proposed disc golf course that is now in the planning stages.

and the reopening park in the near future.
