PURPOSE: To discuss a proposal to create an environmental responsibility goal for Orange
County.
BACKGROUND: On several occasions, Commissioner Jacobs has suggested that the Board
consider adopting a goal that would establish an environmental ethic that would guide how the
County pursues capital projects with regard to issues such as greenbuilding, deconstruction,
and the like, There was insufficient time to discuss these principles at the Board's annual
planning retreat on .January, 31, 2004, so discussion was postponed to this February work
session.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None at this time.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board discuss the proposal to
adopt an environmental responsibility goal and provide appropriate direction to staff.
