SUBJECT: Boards and Commissions Selection Schedule, Interim Assignments and
Alliance Vacancy

PURPOSE: To consider:
1. Extending the current boards and commissions assignments for members of the Board of
Commissioners until both the appointment of a new Commissioner and the Board's
approval of 2023 assignments occur;
2. Selecting Board members to serve in the interim on boards and commissions assigned to
Commissioner Renee Price based on her stepping down to begin serving in the North
Carolina General Assembly; and
3. Selecting a Board member to serve on the Alliance Health Board of Directors in place of
Commissioner Amy Fowler.
BACKGROUND: Members of the Board of Commissioners serve on various County and County-
related boards and commissions. Typically, Board members indicate their desire to continue
serving on specific boards or commissions or their desire to make changes in December of each
year.
Due to the upcoming BOCC vacancy created by Commissioner Price's resignation, it has been
proposed that Board members remain in their current boards and commissions assignments until
a new Commissioner is appointed to the Board.
Additionally, Commissioner Price currently serves on seven (7) boards and commissions as the
BOCC representative. At this time, staff recommends temporarily filling the upcoming vacancies
for the following boards:
1. Durham Technical Community College Board of Trustees
a. Upcoming meeting dates
i. Student Success Committee
1. January 9, 2023 and February 6, 2023 from 4:00-5:15 pm (virtual)
ii. Workforce and Economic Development Committee
1. January 19, 2023 from 3:00-4:00 pm (virtual)

iii. Budget, Finance, and Infrastructure Committee
1. February 14, 2023 from 3:30-5:00 pm (virtual)
iv. Board of Trustees Meeting
1. February 21, 2023, Time To Be Determined (virtual)
2. Go Triangle Board of Trustees
a. Upcoming meeting dates
i. Board of Trustees Meeting
1. January 25, 2023 at 12:00 pm (in person with virtual option)
2. February 22, 2023 at 12:00 pm (in person with virtual option)
Commissioner Price also serves on the Strategic Communications Work Group, the Schools
Capital Needs Work Group, the Joint Public Safety Training Facility Work Group, the Legislative
Issues Work Group, and the Small Business Loan Program. Due to the current status of these
entities, the Board may want to consider the need and potential postponement of any interim
assignments to these groups.
Finally, due to a potential conflict of interest, a Board member should be identified to replace
Commissioner Fowler on the Alliance Health Board of Directors. The next Alliance meeting is
scheduled for February 2, 2023 from 4:00-6:00 pm (in person with virtual option).
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item.
SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There is no Orange County Social Justice Goal associated with this
item.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: There is no Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal
impact associated with this item.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board-

oard:1) approve extending the current boards and commissions assignments until both the
appointment of a new Commissioner and the Board's approval of 2023 assignments occur;
2) select Board members to serve in the interim on the Durham Tech Board of Trustees and
Go Triangle Board of Trustees;
3) discuss the need and, as necessary, make any interim assignments to the Strategic
Communications Work Group, the Schools Capital Needs Work Group, the Joint Public
Safety Training Facility Work Group, the Legislative Issues Work Group, and the Small
Business Loan Program; and
4) select a Board member to serve on the Alliance Health Board of Directors in the interim.
