'Minutes of the Board of Commissioners
August 23, 1962
The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special called session on
Thursday, August 23, 1962, at 2:30 o'clock p.m. in the Commissioners' room at the
courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C.
Members present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett
and Clarence D. Jones.
Members absent: Commissioner Donald McDade and Henry S. Walker.
The purpose of this meeting was to receive from the State Highway Commission
a revised secondary road program for Orange County, N. C., for the fiscal year of
1962-1963•
Prior to meeting with the representatives of the State Highway Commission
H. Dobson requested the representatives of the State Highway Commission for assist- .
ance in the improving of secondary road #1937.
J. W. MacLamroc,- Mr. Welsh, Earl Hoover and C. I. Walters, representatives
of the State Highway Commission presented to the Board a Revised Secondary Road Program
for Orange County. After a thorough examination and explanation of the revised road
plan Commissioner Bennett, moved that'the Board-of.,County Commissioners accept the
revised road plan as presented by the representatives of the State Highway Commission.
Commissioner Jones seconded this motion. Chairman Stanford called for a vote and
there were 3 ayes and 0 nays. Chairman Stanford declared the motion passed.
Commissioner Bennett moved that Roy E. Martin be appointed as a member of
the Greater Chapel Hill Planning Board for a term of five (5) years. Commissioner
Jones seconded this motion. Chairman Stanford called for a vote and there were 3
ayes and 0 nays. Chairman Stanford declared the motion passed.
Commissioner Jones moved that Mrs. B. B. Forrest be designated as an official
representive for Orange County at a Planning Seminar which is to be conducted by
the Institute of Government. Commissioner Bennett seconded this motion. Chairman
Stanford called for a vote and there were 3 eyes and 0 nays. Chairman Stanford
declared the motion passed.
REVISED SECONDARY ROAD PROGRAM IN ORANGE COUNTY
DELETIONS FROM PROGRAM
1. New location - conn from S.R. 31005 in an easterly direction
for 1.6 miles $ 20,000.00
2. New location - from NC 57 to Faucette Road, 1.6 miles 25,000.00
3. New location - Eubanks Road, from Inter. Weaver Dairy Road in a
westerly direction to Eubanks Station, length 1.0 mi. 8,000.00
4. New location - from Jones Ferry Road in a westerly direction
for 1.0 mi. 11,400.00
5. New location - exten. S.R. #1517 (Laws Store Rd.) to a connection
with S.R. #1508 (John Hawkins Rd.), length 1.5 mi. 18,750.00
6. New location - eaten. S.R. #1733 (Weaver Dairy Rd.) to a connection
with VS 15 & 501, length 0.4 mi. 5,000.00
Total deletions from Programs 88,150.00
ADDITIONS TO PROGRAM - GRADING, DRAINAGE & PAVING
7. Laws Store Road - from S.R. #1001-in an easterly direction 1.7 mi.
to S.R. #1518 • length 1.7 mi. 34,000.00
8. John Hawkins Rd. - from NO 86 in an easterly direction 1.5 mi. -
length 1.5 mi. 33,170.00
9. Bradshaw Quarry Rd. - from S.R. #1007 to S.R. #1117 (original
Program 1.0 mi.) - length increased to-1.92 mi.
additional funds requested 16,980.00
INCREASE IN FUNDS FOR SURVEYS AND R/W ACQUISITION 4,000.00
TOTAL FUNDS REPROGRAMMED 88,150.00
