PURPOSE: To consider appointments to the Homestead and High School Roads Safety Task Force
BACKGROUND: This Task Force was created by the BOCC on December t, 2003 to address
traffic, pedestrian and bicycle safety in the area of Homestead and High School Roads.
Charge: This short-term task force will help suggest short-term improvements and lend support to
accelerate long-range improvements noted in the Metropolitan Planning Organization Transportation
Improvement Program (MPO-TIP) for the area.

Two members have been appointed already. Ms. Sharon Cook, a local area resident and spokesperson
for "Students on Sidewalks," was appointed by the BOCC to a Community representative position. The
Honorable Dorothy Verkerk, member of the Chapel Hill Town Council, was appointed by the Council to
the Town of Chapel Hill pasition.There remain seven vacant positions.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None at this time.
RECOMMENDATION(S) Consider appointing a BOCC member or designee to the Homestead and
High School Roads Safety Task Force and other appointments as appropriate, as the Board may
decide.
