- OCAS developments from Director Dr. Strong
o Working on orientation manual for new ASAB members
o Budget to be presented to BOCC May 3, 2022, including funding for veterinarian
o Looking to make pet licensing more efficient-budget item to contract out
o NC State Animal Selective at OCAS this week
o $20K grant from Petco to address Community Cat Program
o Still looking to fill positions
o Internal focus on training employees and team building, and diversity, equity, and
inclusion
o Dr. Strong will not be at June 2022 meeting. Leading study abroad program for vet
students from NC State in South Africa
o Animal welfare concerns at Buckhorn Flea Market(selling underaged and sick
puppies)- Dr. Strong exploring PSA (seeking feedback from Legal)
- Introduction of new Administrative Support to ASAB,Holly Pittman

- Update on Noisy Rooster Committee
o Number of residents in R8 and R13 is small—but OC is growing and there may be an
increase in residents
o OCAS is not receiving a lot of complaints (4-5 in last 2 years)
o ASAB has exhausted all we can do-BOCC and Planning Division are aware of the
issue
Vote on Writing letter to BOCC about our concerns and recommendation to look into the
issue in a cross-departmental way(Ed will draft)

Update on Wild and Dangerous Animals Ordinance Committee
o April 4, 2022 meeting very productive and terms better understood by all parties
o Based on meeting, presented proposal to assigned county attorney. Compromises
reached.
o One more meeting and then being brought to Legal
o Goal is to have proposal brought before ASAB at the next meeting
o Lee Pickett and Allan Polak will join committee
Informal Discussion: University Lake trails - citizen stalked by an aggressive coyote. Citizen could contact
NC Fish and Wildlife.
