BACKGROUND: The Arts Commission recommends strategies to promote the artistic and cultural growth of Orange County, advises the Board of Commissioners on matters involving the arts, and acts as the granting panel for funding programs available to individual artists and non- profit groups sponsoring arts projects in Orange County. The Board of County Commissioners appoints all fifteen (15) At-Large members. This term will expire June 30, 2023. Ms. Danielik is actively involved in the performing and literary arts on campus at UNC. She is the production manager for LAB! Theater and will serve as president of the Forest Theater Players in the next school year. She is a creative writing major and is involved in the writing community as well. Arts Commission: Submitted Interests & Experiences Relevant Experience Board #1 I worked with March For Our Lives on the state level from Jan. 2020-March 2022. 1 worked as a State Director planning meetings, delegating tasks, and reporting to MFOL Nationals. I believe this prepared me for a wide range of responsibilities, but mostly interpersonal communication and basing my work in public service. I also serve as a production manager for LAB! Theatre at UNC. I produced Trail to Oregon this past November. I also am involved in acting and directing across all the companies at UNC. I have directed for Pauper Players and acted with LAB!, Company Carolina, and the Forest Theatre Players. I will be taking over as president of the Forest Theatre Players next school year. I am also a creative writing major with a specific interest in poetry, so I know a lot about what is going on in these communities. Victoria E Danielik 6 Reasons Want to Serve Board#1 I want to serve on the Arts Commission Board because the arts have given me everything that I have. My father is a musician, my aunt is an actress, and my mom is a poet. I was raised to cultivate these interests and want to work in the arts throughout my life. I also talked with Hannah Fatool about this position and believe I can offer new perspectives to the board. Diversity of Viewpoints Board #1 I have been told that I am a chameleon of sorts in that I fit into any group I am a part of. I think this is, in part, due to being raised in an open-minded family where I was allowed and encouraged to have my own opinions on issues. I am passionate about social justice and environmental justice. I am also a queer woman, which has given me insight into how different communities are affected by these issues. I do acknowledge I have a great amount of privilege and I want to make and give space to those who don't have the same privilege. During advisory board meetings, a member shall immediately disclose any potential conflict of interest and request to be excused from voting when he or she has a conflict of interest. 2. During appeal proceedings, the applicant has the right to question the interest of any voting member. The advisory board chair should consult with the County Attorney or staff attorney on any potential conflict of interest in appeal matters. 3. In determining from existing facts and circumstances whether a conflict of interest exists the determining party shall consider the facts and circumstances as would an ordinary and reasonable person exercising prudence, discretion, intelligence, and due care. • Gifts 1. An advisory board member shall not directly or indirectly ask, accept, demand, exact, solicit, seek, assign, receive, or agree to receive any gift or honorarium for the advisory board member, or for another person, in return for being influenced in the discharge of the advisory board member's official responsibilities. 2. This section shall not apply to gifts or awards authorized by Orange County Policies, Resolutions, or Ordinances. • Code of Ethics 1. Advisory board members should act with integrity and with independence from improper influence as they exercise the functions of their offices. Characteristics and behaviors that are consistent with this standard are: 1. Adhering firmly to a code of sound values. 2. Living as if they are on duty as appointed officials regardless of where they are or what they are doing. 5. Using their best independent judgment to pursue the common good as they see it, presenting their opinions to all in a reasonable, forthright, consistent manner. 6. Remaining incorruptible, self-governing, and not subject to improper influence, while at the same time being able to consider the opinions and ideas of others. 7. Disclosing contacts and information about issues that they receive outside of public meetings, and refraining from seeking or receiving information about quasi-judicial matters outside of the quasi-judicial proceedings themselves. 8. Treating other advisory boards and advisory board members and the public with respect, and honoring the opinions of others even when they disagree. 9. Showing respect for their appointed office and not behaving in ways that reflect badly on the office, the advisory board, Orange County, or the Orange County Board of Commissioners. 11. Recognizing that individual board members are not generally allowed to act on behalf of the board, but may only do so if the board specifically so authorizes, and that the board must take official action as a body. 13. Being faithful in the performance of the duties of their offices. 14. Acting as especially responsible residents whom others can trust and respect. 15. Faithfully attending and preparing for meetings. 16. Carefully analyzing all credible information that is properly submitted to them, and when applicable, being mindful of the need not to engage in communications outside the meeting in quasi-judicial matters. 17. To the extent appropriate, they should be willing to put the board's interests ahead of their own and shall avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest and shall, under no circumstances, use their position on any board for personal gain or profit. 2. Members of the Planning Board, Board of Adjustment, Economic Development Commission, and Board of Equalization and Review shall upon initial appointment, and prior to December 31 annually thereafter, disclose: 1.
