BACKGROUND: The Advisory Board on Aging suggests policy and makes recommendations to the Board of Commissioners and the Department on Aging while acting as the liaison between the older residents of the County and the County government. It is charged with promoting needed services, programs and funding that impacts the older residents. The Board of County Commissioners appoints all twelve (12) members. Box 8181 Hillsborough, NC 27278 Dear Chair Price: At the March 8th meeting of the Orange County Advisory Board on Aging they made several recommendations for board appointments. The board requests that the following recommendations be taken into consideration: The board request that Dr. Heather Altman's term be extended by one year. She is the current chair of the board and has played a vital role in the development of the 2022-27 Master Aging Plan. With a one year extension this will provide assistance in the implementation off of this MAP and time to transit the chair role to another board member. The board request that Vibeke Talley be considered for appointment to a second term. She has been actively involved in the development of the 2022-27 Master Aging Plan,as well as Chair of the Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee. The board request the appointment of Lucinda Poole to an At-large vacancy. She has attended a board meeting. She is very interested in serving the community and comes with communication/media experience that would greatly benefit the Orange County Dept. on Aging as we do outreach to inform the community of the Department's services. The board recognizes there are still two vacancies and are actively engaged in recruitment to expand the diversity on the board,including representation from the Asian community and other communities of color and northern Orange County. One of my parents was in a Nursing Home (in GA), and the other was in an Adult Care/Family Care Home in NC. I am very familiar with these models of care and would welcome the opportunity to serve the citizens of Orange County by working in and through one of these committees to improve the condition for our elderly. I am also a nurse and educator, and have experiential and clinical knowledge of caring for the elderly.
