Just place an L4 x 4 x 5/16 in the joint above the opening and bear 8" on each side. However, the contractor pointed out a location where 2 - 2 x 10's span 16'+ and support 6'-6" of equipment load. These 2 x 10's will support a design load of only 17psf for the supported floor area. I recommend that these 2 x 10's be replaced with 2 - 2 x 10 LVL's. The doors should be: Species: White Birch (Rotary) Stain Color: Caramel 2) I am attaching the letter from Gus Neville regarding the (new) lintels and the discovered structure. Note that he believes that the existing beams are not adequate for the mechanical load above, even though they have actually been supporting the mech equip. Based on his analysis, I believe we should use the LVL's in this location as designed. Where the existing beams are not supporting the mechanical equipment, we can delete the LVL's that were shown. 3) I hope we can pick up some credits to offset the mop closet doors. COR 2 is expensive. There are a couple things you should know. All the exits and emergency lights were shown as existing and none will stay lit for 15 min minimum so we are replacing them. The emergency egress lights that are out the side and back doors also won’t stay lit for more than 1 min so we are replacing them too. $225 each for the exits x 4 $200 each for the emergency lights x 2 $250 each for the egress x 2 The question is whether they want us to add an egress light out the front door. My guess is the City will require but I could be wrong. So we can add it now for $350 or we can wait and see if the Fire Marshal requires it?
