HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrange County State of Emergency Declaration - February 2021 Severe Winter Weather Renee Price, Chair a ri Jamezetta Bedford, Vice- Chair Orange County Board of Commissioners Mark Dorosin Post Office Box 8181 Amy Fowler 200 South Cameron Street Sally Greene Hillsborough, North Carolina, 27278 Jean Hamilton g Earl McKee Dorf h DECLARATION OF AN ORANGE COUNTY STATE OF EMERGENCY WHEREAS, Orange County is under imminent threat from severe winter weather, which is forecasted to result in upwards of 0.5 inches of ice accumulation to Orange County in the next 24 hours; and WHEREAS, as a result of the above-described emergency, I have determined that there is an imminent threat of widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property, and may disrupt essential services and systems: Section 1. Pursuant to the Orange County's Code of Ordinances, Part I, Chapter 14, Article II, Sec. 12-31, and as authorized by Chapter 166A of the North Carolina General Statues, a State of Emergency is hereby declared within the jurisdiction of Orange County,North Carolina. Section 2. By request of the mayors or their appointed representatives, this declaration includes the incorporated jurisdictions of the Towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough. Section 3. I hereby order all County law enforcement officers, employees, and all other emergency response personnel subject to the authority of the Orange County Board of Commissioners to cooperate in the enforcement and implementation of the provisions of the Orange County Emergency Operations Plan and other relevant County Ordinances. Section 4. I hereby authorize the Orange County Emergency Operations Center to be immediately activated for as long as required. Section 5. I hereby authorize the Orange County Manager to take appropriate protective action, including implementing prohibitions, restrictions, evacuations, and curfews in order to maintain public order or afford adequate protection for lives, safety or property as needed. www.orangecountync.gov Protecting and preserving—People,Resources,Quality of Life Orange County,North Carolina—You Count! The Orange County Manager is further directed to: (a) distribute this declaration to the news media and other organizations calculated to bring its contents to the attention of the general public; (b) file this declaration with the Clerk to the Orange County Board of Commissioners and display a copy prominently on the Orange County website; (c) distribute the declaration as necessary to ensure its full implementation; and(d) submit a signed copy of this Declaration to the Department of Public Safety WebEOC. Section 7. This proclamation shall become effective immediately. Proclaimed this the 17 Day of February, 2021, at 5:00 PM. Section 8. This proclamation shall remain in effect until it is rescinded.
