PURPOSE: To present the Board of County Commissioners with the 2002 Status of Women
Report on Affordable Housing in Orange County,
BACKGROUND: Data in the 2000 Status of Women Report revealed that there are many
factors which account for the economic status of women in Orange County including child care,
health care, pay equity, transportation and affordable housing. The Commission decided to
research the impact of affordable housing on women in Orange County and report its results in
a publication entitled: Orange County Commission for Women Status of Women Report 2002 -
Housing Affordability far Women in Orange County, Data in the 2002 Report reveals that while
Orange County has made significant effort to address the issue of housing affordability it is still
prescient and has a profotand impact on women's overall economic well-being, The
Commission will distribute the report to libraries, agencies and non-profits that serve women in
Orange County and surrounding areas.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with the presentation of the
report,
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the presentation
on the 2002 Status of Women Report and provide any feedback or comments to staff,
