PURPOSE: To present checks to local artists and arts organizations receiving Spring, 2003
Orange County Arts Grants.
BACKGROUND: The Orange County Arts Commission grants funds to local artists and arts
organizations in the spring from funds received from state government through the Grassroots
Arts Program of the North Carolina Arts Councih Funds are distributed far arts programming
that reflects the racial and cultural diversity of the County. Each grant recipient must match the
grant amount with local dollars in order to receive funding.
In regard to the funds being "Spring 2003" funds, it should be noted that the finds received
from state government are considered "Spring 2003" funds based an haw the state processes
funding allocations to recipient counties, It is also worth noting that the "Spring" distribution of
funds normally occurs in the early fall of each year, and distribution was delayed this year due
to state budget issues.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact an Orange County, as this action represents
a pass-through of state funds,
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board acknowledge the local
recipients of the awards during the December 9, 2003 meeting with the presentation of checks
by the Chair,
