III. Senator Valerie Foushee From Jones Street
State Senator Foushee first joined the legislature after her 2012 House campaign in
District 50. Representing rural Orange and Durham counties, Foushee built relationships,
passing several local bills. She began her tenure in the Senate following Senator Ellie
Kinnaird's retirement from District 23 and now serves Orange and Chatham Counties.
Valerie is a staunch supporter of tourism and economic development and served on the
Board of Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau for many years. While on the
board she advocated for a new brand that emphasized the assets of Chapel Hill and
Orange County, a professional advertising agency and greater emphasis on including
Orange County's diverse population and history in tourism marketing.
