Board Members present: Fred Joiner, Chair; Anita Hill, Vice Chair; Delia Keefe, Secretary;
Dan Mayer, Linda Williamson, Justin Haslett, Matthew Keith, Bronwyn Merritt, Marlon
Torres, Sean Bailey, Brad Porter, Tim Hoke, Tinka Jordy, Marcela Slade, Krista Bremer
Staff Present: Katie Murray, Executive Director; Emilie Menzel, Assistant
I. Fred called the meeting to order at 6:33pm.
II. Tim moved to approve the January 2021 minutes. Linda seconded.
III. Advisory Board Update
a. The Conflict of Interest policy review will continue next month.
b. John Bemis will join as a board member next month.
Tim made a motion to accept Lindsay Metivier as a board
member. Marcella seconded. The motion was approved.
A discussion of other possible candidates followed.
IV. Director's Report:
a. WRAL Big Night in for the Arts
i) Sponser update - Individual and corporate sponsorships
are needed. The deadline has been extended to the 22na
ii) Volunteer needs —Volunteers are needed for the actual
night of March 11'. 5 or 6 people will be needed to
answer calls, take information, and type into a website
in real time, 4:30-9:00pm. This includes training.
b. Eno Mill—Year 1 review.
Katie met with Travis (Katie's boss) for the Year 1 review.
The mill is operating in the black and has generated $15,000 —
$18,000 in revenue. Katie has the go ahead to hire a V2 time
operational manager for the mill.
c. Art on the Hill
Katie is applying for an NEA grant for Art on the Hill.
The event needs a different name, such as a one-word
recognizable name.
d. Orange County Arts Alliance (OCAA) Update
The federal 5010 paperwork is done and is being reviewed.
e. Outside Agencies Grant Program
Agencies apply through the county and the commission reviews
these. Please review these by March 1.
V. Liaison Reports
a. UNC Student Liaison
In-person classes begin this week. Some student arts organizations
are not as active at this time. Some readings and the
Racial Equity Forum are coming up.
b. Chapel Hill Arts Commission
Mostly quiet right now.
c. Hillsborough Arts Council
The executive director has resigned. Doris has also resigned
as co-chair. An interim program person will be involved.
Future plans include a part time director. They must return
the money granted for the director's position.
d. The ArtsCenter
Dan is asking for support as he goes before the
Carrboro Town Council for the approval of their building plan
and obtaining a "conditional use permit". Breaking ground is
expected about a year from now with a 12 month build.
e. Carrboro Arts
f. Visitor's Bureau
Revenues are suffering.
g. OCAG
VI. Advocacy/Other Updates
Share posts to promote the WRAL event.
Fred moved to adjourn the meeting. Dan seconded.
