BACKGROUND: The Human Rel~~tions Commission is composed of twenty-three (23) members who normally serve for three-year terms. The towns of Hillsborough, Chapel Hitl and Carrboro are each allocated two (2) seats, with the remaining seventeen (17) considered "at large" seats with representation sou~~ht from the townships of Cheeks, Eno, Bingham, Little River, and Cedar Grove. The town councils of Hillsborough, Chapel Hill and Carrboro shall nominate persons to fill their seats, and these nominations shall be accepted by the Orange County Board of Commissioners. ,should the town councils choose not to make a nomination, the Board may fill the seats from applications submitted to the County. It is the intention of the Board to appoint Commission members known to favor the principles of equal opportunity and non-discrimination. There is one vacant Town of Carrboro seat, and the Carrboro Board of Aldermen is recommending Ms. Josephine Harris of 600 Hillsborough Road, Carrboro, NC 27510 for this position. She would be serving a partial term which will expire on June 30, 2004. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. A RESOLUTIOrI RECOMMENDING AN APPOINTMENT TO THE ORANGE COUNTY HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION Resolution No. 30/2003-04 WHEREAS, the Town of Carrboro has two seats on the Orange County Human Relations Commission; and WHEREAS, one of these seats is c zrrently vacant; and WHEREAS, Josephine Harris has .~ubmitted an application expressing interest in serving as a Carrboro representative on the Oraaige County Human Relations Commission. NOW, THEREFORE, THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE TOWN OF CARRBORO HEREBY RESOLVES: Section 1. The Mayor and Board o f Aldermen hereby recommend that Ms. Josephine Harris be appointed as a Carrboro representative on the Orange County Human Relations Commission. If appointed, Ms. Harris' term would expire in June 2004. Section 2. This resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
