PURPOSE: To approves butlgetoNinance artlandment for fiscal year 2001-02.
BACKGROUND:
Department of Social Services
On November ], 2001, the Orenge County BoeM of County Commissioners esbblishetl
three new permanent full-time equlvalen[ (FTE) poskbns for the Department of Social
Services. The new posi8ons inclutle two Chiltl Protection Services (CPS) socal worker
poeklone and one CPS supervisor. These poshions, along with four CPS social worker
positions created in fiscal year 2000.01, will allow [he Department to meet State
recommended steffng standards for child welfare services indutling responding [o siWa[ions
tludng times when the office is not open -mainly nights and weekends.
The anticipated met of the three recently approved posifions totals about $118,634. This
amount rovers salary far seven monlha along with annual operating end one-time start-up
cesLS (such as furniture and equipment). The anticipatetl full-year footling for the upcoming
fiscal year 2002-03 totals about $151,000 for salaries, benefits antl annual opereting costs.
The DepaNnant has received notification from the Stets that fedarel Temporary Assistance
for Neatly Families (TANF)funds woultl otteet one huntlretl percent of the position costs.
This amendment provides for the receipt of $1(18,000 in TANF funtls antl establishes a
budget for the recently approved poeifione. No additional County monies ere required for the
receipt of these funtls (see column M1, attachment 1).

RECOMMENDATION (5): The Manager recommends the[ the Boats of County
