PURPOSES To request approval to release $25,000 in Master Aging Plan funtls set aside to
plan antl develop an atlult day health center in Central Orerrge.
BACKGROUND: For FY 2002, establishing an atlult tlay health progrem is one of the top
priorities (Goal III-A, c1-3) of the Master Aging Poen for Orenge County. For FV 2002, the
BoeN of County Commissioners set aside $50,000 to implement this atlult tlay center Initiative.
This iuntling request woultl employ a mmporery, pert-time employee to complete the necessary
planning tasks before lire tloors of the atlult day health center ceuM open. (See Attachment)
The service would provide social and health services to frail. tlisabletl antl isolated older atlutts.
It woultl also pmvide respite and education for the participant's families and caregivers. The
main goal of me progrem would be to prevem or tlelay the onset of ins@utionalaation of the
participants. An atlult tlay heats center cumenpy does not exist in the county. Severel
organ¢apons have alreatly committed weir suplwd [o Nis InttlatMe for FY 2002 including: 1)

feet of space within the Meedowlentls complex wtth Horton Enterydsas in September 2001.
Horton is currently renovating the space, which is expected to be completetl by December
2001. Use of the center space by paNCipants is expected by Mash 2002. The process re
underway to certify Ne center antl have R operetetl by a new non-proID organization by July
2002. Should all the necessary scan-up tasks be completed before July, afollow-up report end
request to BOGG will be wbmitled b release the remaining balance of Ne MAP funds in order
to begin opere8on of the tlay healN center.
