PURPOSE: To wnsider nominations for GS 19-A appoimmerds far wunh animal uuelty
investigators.
BACKGROUND: Since September 1994, the loam of Commissioners has annually appointed
or reappointed one or more employees of the Animal ProteRion Society (APB) b act as
County-Appoinletl Animal Cmelry Inves[ga[or(s) under NC Ganerel Statutes Chapter 19A.
Chapter 19A is a law which provides a civil remetly far cuely W animals. The BoeN pf Heatth
has reviewed this nomination and mwmmended krwaMing the nominations of Laua Walters
antl Darm Das to the Boartl of Commissioners for appointmem. Both have adentletl animal
cruelty investigation workshops antl [heir backgrounds ere Nrther deGiletl in the attached letter
from Ma. SanfoN, the APS Executive Director.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The investigators serve as volunteers. al no salary ws[[o Ne wunry.
RECOMMENDATION(SJ: The Manager recommends that the BOaM approve the appointment
of Laura Walters end Dane Das as county-appointed animal cruelty imesOga[ors Por 2001-
2002.
