PURPOSE: To receive a report from UNC School of Government consultant Kevin FitzGeraltl
on the Organizational Assessment - Phase t Strategic Communications Review.
BACKGROUND: At its June 25, 2001 meeting, the Boats of Commissioners epprovetl a
proposal fromihe Insthute pf Government (now School of Government) to Initiate work on the
County's plannetl organizational assessment with aStrategic Communications Review as
Phase 1. Kevin FitzGeraltl from the UNC School of Government now has wmpletetl this
review.
At the October 22 wodc session, Mc FitzGeraltl will report to the Board on the review process,
findings and recommentla[ions. He also will be available for questions and tliscuesion, as the
BoaN desires. In follow up to the report antl tliscussion, the Boartl may wish to provide
tlirection 1g stag on next steps

RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Boartl receive the report, discuss the
8ntlings and recommentlations, antl provitle tlirection to stall as to next steps.
