PURPOSE: To consider reappointing Jo Roberson as Orange County Tax Collector for a four
year term, effective July 1, 2005.
BACKGROUND: Chapter 105-349 of the North Carolina General Statutes requires the Board
of County Commissioners to appoint a tax collector "for a term to be determined by the
governing board". Ms. Jo Roberson was originally appointed Tax Collector in January 2000 to
complete the unexpired term of Ginger Rolfe, ending .lune 30, 2001, She was subsequently
reappointed for terms running from July 1, 2001 -June 30, 2003, and July 1, 2003 -June 30,
2005, To further the long-term stability of the Revenue/Tax Collector Office, and in recognition
of Ms. Roberson's outstanding service over the years as Revenue Director and Tax Collector,
staff recommends that the Board make the reappointment for a period of four years,

RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board reappoint Jo Roberson
as Orange County Tax Collector for a period of four years, effective July 1, 2005.
