PURPOSE: To request approval to renew the Memorantlum of Agreement with North State
Legal Services, Inc. for Me proviebn of legal wunselirg antl assistance, as required by Title III
of the Older Americans Act.
BACKGROUND: The Older Americans ACl requires thata small percentage of the annual
Orenge County Title III allocation be spent k provide legal services far residents sixty years antl
older whc do not meet North State Legal Services income eliglElllry guitlelines. The requiretl
expenditure for FV 99-00 is $1,538 with a 10% local makh. These tuntls were indutletl in the
approvetl tlepadmental butlget. North State Legal Services, Inc. has agreed k provide [he
service for $35 per hour, the same rate as the past fiscal year. These funds will provitle 69
hours of service averaging approximately three hours per person Thus, an es[Imated 10 older
persons would be served. TMa will be the thirteenth year of subwn[mding wiN North State
Legal Services.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The DltlerAmedrana Ad funtla designated for this service requires
makh of $1]1 (1 g%) which is Indutletl in the FV Ot-02 operating budget for [he Community
Based Services division. No local match increase is anikipated at thistime.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recammeMS approval and authorization for the
Chair to sign the Memorentlum of Agreement with North State Legal Services, Inc. for the
