PURPOSE: To seek author¢a0an to enter into agreements with respite care providers.
BACKGROUND: In Ne past, the Depenment on Aging has ubl¢stl a portion of its Eltlercere
operating butlget to purchase in-home respite service from local provitlere. This servlce places
a treined aitle in [he home of a hail oltler adult in order to relieve the cereglver who is usually a
family member. The average albcation MService la eix hours per week.
The Department's Fiscal Veer 2002 butlget includes more than $96.000 to be used for this
puryoae. Approximately $80,000 of this amount is provided by Me State Division of Aging
which reimburses 90Yo of the cast of providing the servlce. It will be used to purchase mom
Nan ],300 hours of respite service for approximately 40 persons.
In order tc maintain [he flexibilM1y necessary for successful service tlelivery, the County has
found it prutlent to use several provitlers ceMirgen[ upon their availabiliy. Therefore, the BoaN
is being requested to authorize [he Manager ro sign agreements with three service provitler
agencies. They are:
Assistant Care Provitlers
Care FOpus
Home Health Solutions
The County will continue to contract with qualihetl service provitlere pursuant to both Stale-
mantlatetl requirements and the crReda established by the County.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding for the purchase of this service is included in the current
approved Depenment on Aging butlget. The service cost will nM exceetl $13. W per aide hour.
RECOMMENDATION~S~: The Manager recommends that the Boertl authanze the Ma
sign agreements for respite care providers. Such authodzatbn shall not exceed the
budgeted forthia (unction in the operetin9 budget fortha Depadment on Aging.
