Resolution
PURPOSE: To approve a resolution regarding the transfer of 4.6 acres of land from Chatham
County to Orange County.
BACKGROUND: Mt. Carmel Baptist Church is preparing to implement a master plan that may
involve multiple construction projects. The church's real property is split by the county line with
some in Orange County but approximately 4.6 acres in Chatham County. The church
conference has authorized the administrative deacons to attempt to get the Chatham County
portion transferred to Orange County in an effort to simplify approval of the building projects.
The attached survey shows the property. A legislative act is required to actually transfer the
property.
The church has request the Board approve this transfer.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this action.
SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There is no Orange County Social Justice Goal impact associated
with this action.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: There is no Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal
impact associated with this action.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board adopt and authorize the Chair
to sign the resolution in support of this land transfer.

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE TRANSFER OF 4.6 ACRES OF LAND FROM
CHATHAM COUNTY TO ORANGE COUNTY AND REVISION OF THE BOUNDARY LINE
WITH CHATHAM COUNTY
WHEREAS, Mt. Carmel Baptist Church owns a parcel of land along the Orange/Chatham boundary
line that is split by the boundary line; and
WHEREAS, the church intends to develop the property and seeks the transfer of the Chatham County
portion of the parcel to Orange County in order to facilitate a smoother development process; and
WHEREAS, the transfer of this 4.6 acres will result in an adjustment to the boundary line between the
counties, which may only be accomplished by the North Carolina Legislature; and
WHEREAS, the church requests the Board of Commissioners demonstrate to the Legislature its
support for the transfer through adoption of this resolution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Orange County Board of Commissioners
supports the efforts of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church to have that portion of its property currently situated
in Chatham County transferred to Orange County, and supports a revision to the boundary line
between the counties as may be necessary for the transfer.
