HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda for January 22 & 23, 2021 Retreat Orange County - County Commissioners Retreat Agenda Friday,January 22, 2021 - 2-5 pm Saturday, January 23, 2021 -9 am-noon Via Zoom Retreat Goals The purpose of this retreat is for Commissioners to: • Build camaraderie and collaboration • Work toward a comprehensive, yet flexible, Recovery and Resiliency Plan for Orange County that is focused on disrupting racism and reflects the dynamic reality of the current landscape • Prioritize recovery spending for the short, medium, long term and begin to identify policy changes to rebuild in a more equitable way Agenda Day 1, Friday, January 22, 2021 — 2-5 pm 2 pm Welcome & Context setting for the Retreat—Chair Renee Price 2:10 Review agenda & Working agreements— Facilitator Maggie Chotas Proposed Working Agreements: - Begin and adjourn on time - One speaker at a time - Listen attentively - Focus on learning and inquiry - Stay on topic— use the parking lot to record items for future discussion - Share the time available for discussion - It is OK to disagree...please do so respectfully - Use the parking lot 2:15 Icebreaker: Commissioner Trivia Commissioners send Maggie the following responses prior to the retreat: - Two truths about yourself—think about unusual or esoteric facts others might not know - Something untrue or made up about yourself Your fellow commissioners will try to determine which are true and which one isn't. 2:30 Where are we? Presentations from County staff about the current reality—with questions and discussion from Commissioners along the way. Topics include: Government Alliance on Race and Equity Update Impact Assessment Community Values and Input County Budget Status for FY2020-21 3:30 Break 3:45 Identifying priorities, goals & strategies for the next year - Knowing what we know about the current reality, what priorities do we need to set? - How do our priorities achieve our goal of disrupting racism? - How can our priorities help us rebuild in a more equitable way? - What goals and strategies would have the most potential impact in the priority areas in the next year? 4:45 Closing out Day 1 5 pm Recess meeting for reconvening Saturday morning Day 2, Saturday, January 23, 2021 — 9 am-noon 9 am Reconvening Board of County Commissioners & Opening remarks—Chair Renee Price 9:05 Reflecting on Day 1 & Preparing for Day 2 9:10 Confirming priorities for 2021 9:20 Brainstorming success factors - What does success look like? - How are expectations for equity reflected in success factors? - How will success be measured? 9:30 Considering short, medium and long term goals, strategies & policy changes Presentations from County staff that share information about goals, strategies and policy changes in the coming year and beyond, —with questions, discussion and brainstorming from Commissioners along the way.
