October 21, 1960
The Board of Commissioners of Orange County met in the Commissioner's Room of the Court House
at 10:00 A. M. on Friday. October 21, 1960.
Members present: Chairman R. J. M. Hobbs and Commissioners C. D. Jones, Donald Stanford and
Henry Walker.
Members absent: Commissioner Donald McDade.
Sealed bids for one concoct car and 4 police cars rere opened.

All the above bids were discussed. Commissioner Donald Stanford moved the lore bid of $1,633.00
for the Plymouth Valliant be accepted. This motion received a second from Commissioner C. B. Jones,
Chairman Hobbs then called for a vote and there were 4 ayes and 0 nays including the vote of the
Chairman. The motion was then declared passed.
Commissioner Henry S. (talker motioned the low bid of ,7,464.00 for 4 police patrol cars as
submitted by Yates Motor Comnany be accepted. Commissioner Stanford gave a second to the motion, and
when Chairman Hobbs called for a vote there were 4 ayes and 0 neyes, including the vote oI the Chaim
The Accountant was then directed to place an order for these cars immediately.
The Board then adjourned and immediately reconvened as a Board of Equlization and Review, Hr.
Bobby Hightower of Cheeks Township appealed the assessment of his new house and lot. The Board
questioned Mr. Rightower about his estimate of value of the property. Mr. Hightower said be felt the
value of the house and lot was between $12,500 and 13,000. After making a comparison of his assessment
with the assessment of several other persons the Board voted not to lower his present assessment.
The Tax Supervisor then reported that Col. Rogers of Oakwood Drive in Chanel Hill desired to
appeal the tan assessment of a house several years old, as the property had been assessed in a tart year
prior to this one, the Board felt they had no right to consider the appeal at this time and directed
the Tax Supervisor to so advise Col. Rogers.
The Board of Equlization and Review for the year 1960 than adjourned.
The Board of Commissioners than immediately reconvened.
The Accountant was authorized to spend up to "x400 from the emergency fund for aid to a State
Veterinarian presently working in the County testing Cattle for Bangs Disease.
The Accountant was directed to advertise bids on Premium Gasoline at the earliest opportunity,
and also to have installed on the jail lot a tank of suitable capacity and gasoline pump.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
