SUBJECT: Proclamation Recognizing David Hunt

PURPOSE: To consider a proclamation recognizing and expressing gratitude to David Hunt for
his devotion and service to the people of Orange County.
BACKGROUND: After over 17 years of service to the Board of Commissioners in the Clerk to
the Board's Office, David Hunt is retiring as the Deputy Clerk to the Board/Information Specialist.
After a career in the private sector, David Hunt joined the Clerk to the Board's Office in 2003 as
the Deputy Clerk to the Board/Information Specialist. In his initial years, Mr. Hunt managed
Orange County's public information efforts developing press releases, drafting public hearing
notices, monitoring and updating the County website, and compiling multiple materials to inform
the public of County activities and projects. Mr. Hunt has also become a trusted resource in the
Clerk's Office for the Board of Commissioners and staff Countywide, including developing a
substantial bank of photographs utilized by County Departments and others to highlight services
and promote events associated with Orange County. Mr. Hunt has also over the years served as
a valuable contributor serving the needs of the public at the Emergency Operations Center during
weather and other hazardous events.
More recently, Mr. Hunt became the point person for the Board of Commissioners and multiple
County staff for conducting virtual meetings. David has served as the principal County contact
for organizing Board of Commissioners' meetings virtually, as well as interacting and coordinating
with presenters, members of the public wishing to speak, and others involved.
It should also be noted that while serving the County, Mr. Hunt has also been an active member
in the community, including serving as a dedicated volunteer with the New Hope Volunteer Fire
Department.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with consideration of the
proclamation.

SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There is no Orange County Social Justice Goal impact associated
with consideration of the proclamation.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: There is no Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal
impact associated with consideration of the proclamation.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve and authorize the
Chair to sign the attached proclamation recognizing and expressing appreciation to David Hunt
for his service to the people of Orange County and wishing him well in his retirement.

WHEREAS, David Hunt, after working in the private sector for multiple years, joined the
Clerk to the Orange County Board of Commissioners Office in 2003; and
WHEREAS, during his early years with Orange County, Mr. Hunt managed Orange
County's public information efforts by developing press releases, drafting public hearing
notices, monitoring and updating the County website, and compiling multiple materials to
inform the public of County activities and projects; and
WHEREAS, David has become a trusted resource in the Clerk's Office serving the Board
of Commissioners and staff Countywide, including developing a substantial bank of
photographs utilized by County Departments and others to highlight services and promote
events associated with Orange County; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hunt has also over the years served as a valuable contributor serving
the needs of the public at the Emergency Operations Center during weather and other
hazardous events; and
WHEREAS, more recently, David became the point person for the Board of
Commissioners and multiple County staff for conducting virtual meetings, and has served
as the principal County contact for organizing Board of Commissioners' meetings virtually,
as well as interacting and coordinating with presenters, members of the public wishing to
speak, and others involved; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hunt is retiring from Orange County on December 31, 2020, after over
17 years in service to the County and its residents, and will be missed;
NOW THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby
recognize and express deep appreciation and respect for the services rendered by David
Hunt to the Orange County community, and wish him well in his retirement.
