III. Advisory Board Update (moved to end of agenda)
IV. Director's Report:
a. Orange County Arts Support Fund
The GoFundMe campaign has raised $64,736 as of today.
Donations have significantly slowed. And the number of
applications for the third round (2 organizations and 28
individuals) was smaller. After discussion, the decision
was made to keep the fund open. A suggestion was made
to put a footer in emails to promote the fund.
b. Eno Mill update.
Diversity is important. We are seeking artists of color. One space
is being held open for an artist in residence or curator in residence.
We started renting the big open space as of August 1 st. The mill
offered us risk-free terms. We hope to curate 3-4 shows per year.
A group show is also a possibility.
c. Art on the Hill —July 2021
This is a big countywide public art project. We need to begin
meetings, find donors, and find foundation and corporate
sponsorship. Artist calls should be out by January or February.
This requires a full year of planning. Everyone will need to
have a contingency plan.
d. #MaskUpOCAC campaign.
This campaign combines the efforts of the OCAC and the Health
Department and Public Information Office of the county.
Objections were raised about the images of people of color
on the publicity posters. These posters will not be used. The
OCAC recognizes the need to approach this issue differently
in the future.
V. FY 20-21 Grants Cycle
a. Grassroots for schools.
The Arts Center will have an online roster by October 1.
Our application for schools is on about the same timeline.
b. Panel Meeting schedule
Katie sent out dates for grant panels. Board members can join
additional panels too. Board members will receive grants to
review through Submittable the first of the week of the 24'
Note that there is a rubric correction regarding artistic merit
and community impact.
VI. Liaison Reports
a. UNC Student Liaison
The first day of classes has started. And the arts groups are on
a case by case basis.
b. UNC/Chapel Hill Arts Commission
Playmakers may be in person for the March show. Times are very
challenging for the performing arts. Playmakers is working with
the actors but there are many barriers. The Chapel Hill Arts
Commission will have its first meeting next week.
c. Hillsborough Arts Council
The gift shop is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays with 2 people
working. The shop offers online shopping and curbside pick-up.
Several more garden concerts are planned. A traveling platform
truck with a band is in the planning stages.
d. Carrboro Arts Committee
Two shows are currently up and are posted on the Parks and Rec
website. It would be a good idea to post them on the Carrboro
website too.
e. Visitor's Bureau
The bureau will meet next week.
f. Orange County Artists Guild
The guild surveyed its membership about alternative events to
the tour. Ideas included virtual only, virtual and some in-person,
and 1 or 2 day events outdoors.
