Age Range:35-59 Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau Background, education and experience relevant to this board: Having lived in Orange County off and on since 1994, I have longevity that allows me to speak about the dynamic nature of the area and the amazing growth and development it has seen over the years. I have been involved with the University, the music community, and the local schools (my son is a 5th grader at Ephesus elementary) and can speak broadly about them with ease. As the former Executive Director of University Career Services at UNC, I have considerable familiarity with the business sector in the county. As I transition my professional life, I seek even further community connection. I have advanced communication and social media skills, motivation and desire, organizational and outreach skills, and time to dedicate to the cause! 20 Page 2 of 2 Gary Miller Other Comments: This application was current on:2/28/2020 6:11:26 PM Date Printed:3/2/2020 Boards/Commissions appointments: Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: As likely goes without saying for anyone applying to a board, it is my genuine desire to contribute to the community and deepen the experience of living in this wonderful area. I can think of no greater way to do that than through advocacy and support of the Visitor s Bureau. This area has wonderful arts, music, nature, sports, educational, commerce, and historic experiences that make it a great place to both live and visit. It would be an honor to be able to participate in helping raise the profile, spread the word, and carry out the goals of the Visitors Bureau. Conflict of Interest: Contribution to the diversity of viewpoints on this board: As someone who has technically been a new resident of the area three different times, I am able to both speak to the changes of the area over time and to see the area with fresh eyes. I have lived in rural Orange County (near Murphy School Road), in Carrboro, and now in Chapel Hill (Little Ridgefield neighborhood), and I am a fierce advocate of the positive aspects of the County. 21 Volunteer Application Orange County Advisory Boards and Commissions Robert Morgan Page 1 of 2 Home Address:1820 Dimmocks Mill Road Township of Residence: Cheeks Zone of Residence:County Ethnic Background:white Gender Identity:Male Phone:919-200-3287 Email:rwmtryon@gmail.com Name:Mr. Robert Morgan Boards/Commissions applied for: Hillsborough NC 27278 Name Called: Year of OC Residence:2017 Community Activities/Organizational Memberships: St. Matthew s Episcopal Church - History & Archives Committee Past Service on Orange County Advisory Boards: None Age Range:60+ Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau Background, education and experience relevant to this board: A graduate of M.I.T. & the Wharton School (MBA) I served on the Polk County, NC, Economic & Tourism Development Commission for six years, including Chair for one year. During my term on the Commission we facilitated the development of the Tryon International Equestrian Center - a $100 million+ development by private investors. In 2018 the World Equestrian Games will be held at this facility attracting an expected 100,000+ visitors in a two week period. Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: I believe every citizen has an obligation to support his community. Further, Orange County, like my former NC County, has a very interesting and unique history. I believe my previous experience, serving on the Polk County ETDC, gives me some familiarity with the issues that might be facing the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau. Contribution to the diversity of viewpoints on this board: As a relatively new Orange County resident (2 years) I still see the area much as a visitor. Plus, I had the privilege of serving as a member and Chair of the Polk County (NC) Economic Development Commission which oversees that County's Visitor Bureau. During my tenure we assisted in getting County approvals (zoning, fire protection, etc) for the development of a multi- million dollar private investment for the Tryon International Equestrian Center - building on the historic equestrian activities in that geographic area. Also, we witnessed the development of several vineyards and gave consideration to developing vineyard tours. I might add that I am a "team player" believing that through teamwork and respect for the ideas of others the best results are found. 22 Page 2 of 2 Robert Morgan Other Comments: This application was current on:12/12/2019 Date Printed:12/12/2019 Boards/Commissions appointments: Conflict of Interest: 23 Volunteer Application Orange County Advisory Boards and Commissions John Singletary Page 1 of 2 Home Address:102 Beaver Dam Court Township of Residence: Chapel Hill Zone of Residence:C.H.
