DRAFT Meeting Summary
January 13, 2020; 7:30 pm
Southern Human Services Center, 2501 Homestead Road, Chapel Hill
Present: Bradley Saul (Chair), Bill Ward, James Eichel, Jody Eimers, Kim Piracci, Alan
Parry, Carrie Fletcher, Jeremy Marzuola
Absent: Lynne Gronback, Laura Doherty
Staff: Brennan Bouma, Chris Himi, Wesley Poole, Commissioner Jamezetta Bedford
I. Call to Order
Saul called the meeting to order at 7:32 pm.
II. Additions or Changes to Agenda
Saul requested moving Recruitment discussion to top of agenda.
III. Approval of Draft Minutes from December loth 2019
Motion by Parry; seconded by Ward; none opposed; motion passed.
IV. Recruitment
CFE discussed revamped recruitment efforts in regards to five current vacancies and the
desire to pursue more diversity in geographic location, ethnicity, race, and age. Staff and
CFE members discussed and prioritized efforts as listed.
- Post at County Community Centers-reach out to the non-profit organizers
- Master Gardeners Club and Small Farmer email list serve NC Coop Ext.
- Agriculture Preservation Board- approach Hughes or Pope
- Grad students -MCRP
- Botanical Gardens newsletter
- Chamber of Commerce
- Bo Howes - TLC
- Personally we can each reach out to friends
V. CFE Activities -2020
CFE discussed current activities with a brief status update for each item.
VI. Orange County Rights of Way Task Force
Saul presented the drafted framework document of the formation of a subcommittee/
taskforce under the CFE for approval by CFE. CFE members discussed appropriate
member amounts. Eimers proposed one member and an alternate from each stakeholder
group to limit excess size. CFE discussed future subject matter for taskforce. Motion to
approve by Marzuola; seconded by Piracci; none opposed; motion passed.

VIL Committee Meetings
CFE Committees met to discuss the 2020 Work Plan and prioritize goals for the year.
VIII. Updates and Information Items
- Saul discussed Pirraci's email referring to the North Carolina Climate Change
Interagency Council Meeting on January 22' . Bouma offered information on the
meeting.
- Saul discussed 10 week Orange County Government Academy offered and
recommended attendance by CFE members. Starts Tuesday February 18ch
- Bouma informed CFE that the Climate 1/4 cent Tax Prioritization was bumped to the
February 41h BOCC meeting for final edits and more detailed recommendations.
- Eimers and Saul reiterated the need for CFE to coordinate with County Planning
Office staff. Bouma will coordinate.

Piracci motioned to adjourn the meeting at 9:12 pm; seconded by Ward; none opposed;
motion passed.
