HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 19600801192 Minutes of the Board of Commissioners August 1, 1960 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on August 1, 1960, at too o'clock a.m. in the Commissioners' room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C. Members present: Chairman R. J. M. Hobbs, Commissioners Donald McDade and Henry Walker. Members absent: Commissioners Clarence Jones and Donald Stanford. The kinutes for the nine (9) meetings held during the month of July were read by the Clerk and approved by the Board. The following Department Officials presented reports for the month of July, 1960. Frank Frederick, Delinquent Tax Collector Cache Boggs, Dog Warden C. D. Knight, Sheriff E. M. Lynch, Clark of Court Jane Parker, Welfare Sept. and Walter Green, Veteran's Service Officer. E. M. Lynch, Clerk of Superior Court, requested that the position of Deputy Clerk be created in his office. He requested that the salary be increased to a grade 4 and that the pay increase be raised to either $25.00 or $30.00 per month. Action an this request was deferred until a full Board could be present. Deputy Sheriff,Rainey Roberts, requested that his salary be raised $16.50 per month so that it would be equal to that of the Chief Deputy. No action was taken an Mr. Roberts' request. Charlie Atwater of Chapel Hill requested paving for the rural road that leads from White Cross to Antioch Church. The Board suggested that Mr. Atwater submit a road petition to them and that the petition would be forwarded to the State Highway Commission. The following road petitions were presented and the Clerk was requested to forward them to the State Highway Commission in Greensboro. 1. Road runs off of Orange Grove Road beyond Cary Sykes Road. 2. Andrews Road 3. Belle Vue Avenue located in Hillsboro Township. 4. State Road //1304. The Board discussed with the Sheriff the request made by Rainey Roberts. The Sheriff expressed that he would like for all the deputies to be raised but since the Board had declined his budget request then he felt that the salary situation was now established for this year.
