I. Fred called the meeting to order at 6:47p.m.
II. Marlon moved to approve the March 2020 minutes. Linda seconded.
III. Advisory Board Update (moved to end of agenda)
IV. Director's Report:
a. Orange County Arts Alliance update.
We are seeking 5010 status. The first group of officers will be rolling off of
the commission board.
Fundraising will fall under this arm. We hope to start the joint executive
committees meetings up again soon.
b. Orange County Arts Support Fund(third round panel)
Under $60,000 has been raised. The NC Arts Council provided a$15,000
grant. 15 of these grants were awarded across the state. Applications will be
open July 20-31. We need panelists to review these applications.
c. Eno Mill update.
Diversity is important. We are especially seeking artists of color. Five
talented artists are renting studio space now. We are getting ready to use
the big open space. The mill has offered to rent this space to us. The
county will make a decision regarding this after assessing legal concerns.
d. #LoveHillsborough Community Art Project
This is a public art project involving about 300 participants making 150 heart
shaped mosaics. The mosaics will be displayed on a wall behind
Weaver Street.
e. Art on the Hill—July 2021
This is a county-wide public art project. Tinka is the board rep for this project.
We are looking for grants and committee members.
V. FY 20-21 Grants cycle
There is a big change. Over the last two years the artists' grants included
professional development also. The Arts Center is the fiscal agent for the
relief fund. For the county to provide funds, there has to be something
coming back. The Artist Support Grant through the state replaces the
Emerging Artist Grants.
Grant training programs for artists and organizations will be held on the
21st and 23rd. Mark your calendars for September 8-11 for grant review.
VI. Liaison Reports
a. Hillsborough Arts Council
The last 4 t/2 months have been difficult. The arts council is working through
the difficulties to provide outdoor arts events including a garden concert and
a traveling sound truck with a band. The gift shop opened on Julylwith
precautions in place. Paint it Orange will be a virtual event, Paint it in NC.
The council is working on an online literary program.
b. The ArtsCenter
The center began offering classes online in April. There have been some
changes in staff. There is a relief effort for teaching artists. Summer camp
is ongoing with rules in place and reduced numbers of campers. Federal loans
and donations have helped. A building permit has been submitted for the
new building.
C. Visitor's Bureau
Rentals are meager in Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Many in the hotel community
are out of work. Take out meals help the restaurants. The next meeting is on
August 19tn
d. Orange County Artists Guild
The tour has been cancelled for the fall. Online shows will be on the
square space site for sales and exhibitions.
VII. Advocacy Updates
a. Covid-19 resources discussion
Katie is frequently sending out information on resources for artists.
III. Advisory Board Update (moved to end of agenda)
a. OCAC Advisory Board Nominations
i. Matthew Keith, UNC Student Liaison. Tim motioned to approve
Matthew. Anita seconded.
ii. We need to think about nominations for our upcoming vacancy.
Fred moved to adjourn the meeting. Doris seconded.
