Board Members present: Fred Joiner, Chair; Delia Keefe, Secretary;
Tinka Jordy, Vice Chair, Dan Mayer, Linda Williamson, Marcela Slade,
Anita Mills, Bronwyn Merritt, Marlon Torres, Rachael Despard, Doris
Friend, Tim Hoke, Chris Kubica, Justin Haslett
Board Members absent: Ashley Nissler
Staff Present: Katie Murray, Executive Director
I. Fred called the meeting to order at 6:34 p.m.
11. Doris moved. Linda seconded to approve the September 2019
minutes with the following correction. It is proposed that Art
on the Hill will be a partnership between UNC, Orange County,
Carrboro, Hillsborough, Chapel Hill, and Tourism. Motion
approved.
111. Executive Committee Report:
a. Fred explained that the executive committee discussed the
roles of the Orange County Arts Commission versus the
Orange County Arts Council. The OC Arts Council bylaws
were discussed and edited.
IV. Director's Report:
a. At the upcoming County Commissioners' meeting Katie will
give out arts grants and will outline the Eno Mill plans.
b. Reviewers are needed for the Art Educator Grants.
c. Arts on the Hill. Katie is continuing to meet with people
around the county to get them on board.
d. Paint It Orange. 58 artists participated this year. The exhibit
will continue through the end of November.
e. How to Get Signed Panel. This will be a conversation with
local musicians at Local 506.
V. Liaison Reports:
a. UNC Student Liaison Update. Rachel emailed her report to
the board members. Highlights of the report included that
CPA is looking for an artistic director and that many
programs are scheduled on campus this fall.
b. UNC/Chapel Hill Arts Commission. PlayMakers has
recently concluded a very powerful play entitled Native Son.
The theater is providing a reflective space for interested
people to gather following their productions. Changes were
made in the organization of Festifall this year to make the
event much more art focused. The Forest Theater is still
being studied for the possibility of future changes.
c. Hillsborough Arts Council. The council has had a full-time
director now for 1 year. Tremendous effort is underway to
launch the 5th Annual Riverpark Concert.
d. The Arts Center. There will be a community input session,
open to the public, on Wednesday, November 13th at
OWASA. Planning is ongoing for the site design of the new
Arts Center and fundraising is continuing.
e. Visitors Bureau. Brief remarks — there are 3 more hotels
approved for building in Chapel Hill.
f. Orange County Artists Guild. Artists are picking up their
signs and are preparing for the tour that begins in 2 weeks
Dan motioned to adjourn the meeting. Justin seconded. Fred adjourned
the meeting at 7:34 p.m.
