Board of Social Services
Background, education and experience relevant to this board:
I support human services agencies and systems to identify, adopt and effectively use evidence
based programs and other innovative programs. I ve worked with county health departments and
community coalitions supporting holistic approaches to child well being. I am also conducting
research on the strategies and tools used to support effective parenting support programs.
Thus I feel that my work has contextual relevance to the work of the county DSS.
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
I am looking for opportunities to support family and child well being in my home county. I think
my professional expertise could be useful and inform county priorities. Finally, I have a passion
for ensuring family voice, perspective and needs are given priority and addressed effectivley.
Contribution to the diversity of viewpoints on this board:
I believe I would add a unique viewpoint from my interests in 1)ensuring agency staff and
leaders have the support and resources they need to meet their mandates and 2) ensuring that
intentional learning drives program and process improvement. I also support efforts to ensure
the board reflects the community and DSS clients. I am a community members but have not, to
date, been a DSS client.
Conflict of Interest:
I am not sure if this is a conflict but I am currently part of a project supporting the integration of
health care and social supports for children and families served by Medicaid in Orange, Durham,
Granville, Vance and Alamance counties. This will involve Orange county DSS at some point.
My role is focused on the design and improvement of certain roles within the project and will not
entail significant involvement with county partners and agencies. however, in the spirit of

transparency, I wanted to share that work here.
