PURPOSE: To review plans far the Southern Orange Senior Center and provide comments as
may be appropriate.
BACKGROUND: Since the County Commissioners' review of the senior center plans at the
May 26, 2005 work session, Commissioners Gordon and Halkiotis have worked with the
architect to clarify the design and tweak materials to be used in the construction of the Center.
The project was also presented to the Senior Center Planning Committee on .tune 7, and the
design received unanimous approval. The architect will present the project in detail during the
Board meeting, As part of this agenda item, the BOCC received a project design booklet
outlining the details of the project in advance of this meeting.
The Chapel Hill Planning Board and the Transportation Board discussed the project on June 7.
The architect will discuss their recommendations as part of the presentation, A copy of the
Chapel Hill Staff report and accompanying Resolutions are provided under separate cover.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The latest construction cost estimates are consistent with the $4.9
million discussed with the Board in December 2004,
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the information
as presented by Gurlitz Architects and provide comments and endorsement of the plans,
