Minutes of the Board of Commissioners
July 25, 1960.
The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session on Monday, July 25, 1960, at
9:30 o'clock a.m. in the Commissioners' room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C.
Members present: Chairman R. J. M. Hobbs, Commissioners Clarence Jones, Donald McDade,
Donald Stanford and Henry ':talker.
Members absent: None
The purpose of this meeting was to discuss further the County budget for the fiscal year of
1960-1961.
A new pay plan to superceed the old plan which was established in 1955 was presented by the
County Accountant. The Accountant mentioned the fact that when the old pay plan was instituted
in 19$5 the cost of living index as recorded by the Federal Government stood at 174.5. Today this
index stands at 126.5
The pay plan as presented was discussed at great lengths and the Board decided to amend it
so that the starting salary in pay grade five (5) would be $263.00 per month and that the steps
would progress upward from there.
At the conclusion of this discussion the new plan as presented was adopted and the Acting
Clerk was directed to record same in the minutes.

The Orange Covnty Board of Commissioners met in adjourned aassion on Tuesday, July 263 1960,
at 8 o'clock P.M. in the Commissioners' room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C,
Members present: Chairman R. J. M. Hobbs, Commissioners Clarence Jones, Donald McDade,
Donald Stanford and Henry :talker.
Members absent: None
Budgets of the various General Fund Agencies, the Farm Fund, the Health Fund and Welfare
Funds were discussed and tentatively set.
The meeting adjourned at 11:15 o'clock p.m, to meet grain on Wednesday, July 271th.

at 10 o'clock a.m. in the Commissioners' room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C.
Members present: Chairman R. J. M. Hobbs, Commissioners Clarence Jones, Donald McDade,
Donald Stanford and Henry Walker.
Members absent: None
The following appropriations resolution was adopted:
For the County Bond Fund the sum of $ 20,620.00
For the Farm Program 6 41,936.00
