HomeMy WebLinkAboutNursing Home CAC minutes 110519Orange County Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes, November 5, 2019 5:30pm, Seymour Center, Chapel Hill, NC CALL TO ORDER by Vibeke Talley, Chair • Members Present: Vibeke Talley (Chair) Martha Bell, Autumn Cox (Ombudsman), Bill Morgan (last Orange County meeting), Annie Deaver (Orange County Department on Aging, DOA ), Carol Kelly, Stephanie Boswell, Linda Davis • Members Absent: Jackie Podger, Jerry Ann Gregory • Member Resignation Confirmed: Stephanie Miller • Visitor: Steven Day Applicant for Membership. Mr. Steven Day was introduced as an applicant for committee membership. He has recently moved from Raleigh to Chapel Hill, with experience in long term care in an administrative capacity. He is eligible because of living in Orange County. We welcomed his interest and after further discussion following his departure we felt him to be appropriate for membership, asking that his application be forwarded to our County Commissioners for final approval. OLD BUSINESS; • Discussion/Approval Minutes July 9, 2019: Minutes approved as written. NEW BUSINESS • Membership: o Bill Morgan and Linda Davis. This is Bill’s last meeting. He is relocating to Lee County due to an employment opportunity. Bill’s presence is a loss to this committee; he was wished future success, and all hoped he would eventually be involved in further elder care volunteerism. o We welcomed Linda Davis as a new member. o Vibeke reminded all that recruiting is of the essence; we learned of a pamphlet developed by the Triangle J personnel for just such a purpose. Autumn mentioned she could have it redesigned to reflect Orange County and send copies to all members who may request it for distribution. o Carol Kelly & Vibeke Talley’s terms will expire prior to the next meeting (February 2020) and they agreed to an extension, as approved by the County Commissioners. o Stephanie Boswell’s initial term originally expired in September however, at the next commissioner’s meeting she wished to be reappointed and her request will be forwarded for action. o Vibeke reminded members that we will need to appoint a chair for the committee at our February meeting. She has volunteered to remain if nominated. She has been an exemplary leader, and all present members appreciated her volunteer efforts. • Visit Reports o Brookshire (10/02/2019): Accepted as written; noted follow-up to be done re: posting of meal menus. o Carol Woods (10/08/2019): Accepted with changes (typing errors) o Carolina Pointe (10/08/2019): Accepted as written o Parkview (10/29/2019): Accepted as written; follow-up visit concerns identified o Signature (10/08/2019): Accepted as written; follow-up visit concerns identified. • Ombudsman Report (Autumn Cox, Ombudsman) o Inspectors from the Division of Health Service Regulation have visited all our community facilities; Autumn shared the following information with us: ✓ Carol Woods – some deficiencies: documentation issues included lack of bowel training with incontinent care not being done properly ✓ Carolina Point – lengthy report including: staff responsiveness; assessment timing for care planning; food preparation and medication. Autumn has helped with staff training; corrective actions accepted o Leadership Training went very well and speakers well received. Many information discussions by attendees and important questions clarified about recruiting strategies. • Department on Aging (Annie Deaver) o Caregiver Day of Care (planned for Nov 9, 2019): This day of wellness will be an annual event beginning November 9, 2019 between 10am and 2pm at the Seymour center. Partners & care givers may pre register; provided with options for wellness events as well as other activities. Annie reported that vendors have been very helpful with donations of food, gift certificates and helping to set up a respite room. The department is most appreciative of their generosity. o Caregiver Support Groups are offered for Parkinsons, Grief Support and Wellness for care partners. o The department continues to have a “puzzle corner” at the Seymour Center filled with donations from the community. It’s proving to be very popular. • Reminders: Individual quarterly reports are due in January 2020; Quarterly site visits reports due when visit is completed with copies filed with the Ombudsman and Committee Chair. • Next meeting begins our new schedule of four times as year: February 4, 2020, 5:30pm, Seymour Center.
