June 6, 1960
The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session on Wednesday, June 8, 1960,
at 8 o'clock u.m. in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C.
Members present: Chairman R. J. M. Hobbs, Commissioners Clarence Jones, Donald McDade,
Donald Stanford and Henry Stalker.
Members absent: Hone
Joseph M. Johnston, Sept. of the Chapel Hill City School Unit, presented on behalf of the
Chapel Hill District Board of Education that units budget for the 1960-1961 fiscal year.
A lengthy discussion of the various items of the budget then ensued.
Henresentatives of the District P.T.A. Council and the Chapel }fill School Advisory Committee
spoke briefly lending their support to the budget as presented by Mr. Johnston.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned to meet again on Thursday, June
18th3 for further budget sessions.

The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session on Thursday, June 18, 1960,
at 8 o'clock p.m. in the Commissioners roan at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C.
Members present: Chairman R. J. M. Hobbs, Commissioners Clarence Jones, Donald McDade,
Donald Stanford and Henry Talker.
Members absent: None
Remus Smith, Sr., Chairman of the County A.B.C. Board, informed the Board that his Board was
willing to buy a new base station and five ($) radios for the cars of the County law enforcement
agencies.
After a discussion of the details of this project Commissioners Jones moved that the County
accent the offer, made by the A.B.C. Board. Commissioner Talker seconded this motion. Chairman
Hobbs called for a vote. There were 6 ayes and 0 nayes. Chairman Hobbs then declared the motion
passed.
Chairman Hobbs expressed to r. Smith the appreciation of the Board for the gift made
by the A.B.C. Board.
The Commissioner's then turned its attention to the discussion of the budgets' submitted
by the various Department Official such as the Sherriff, Clerk of Court, Register of Deeds, County Acco tant
Dog `harden, Tax Supervisor and Tax Collector.
The Commissioners directed the Clerk of Sunerior and Recorders Court, the Register of Deeds and
the Sherriff to make a survey of fees charged in the adjoining counties and counties similar in
sire to Orange and submit a report to the Board as to their findings.
Harvey Bennett, Democratic nominee for County Commissioner, was present at this meeting.
Chairman Hobbs expressed the Boards pleasure in having Mr. Bennett present and invited him
to join the Commissioners for all future sessions.
There being no further business the meeting was adjournad to meet again on Tuesday, June
28th, at 8 otclock p.m, to continue their budget sessions.
