HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 19600604Minutes of the Board of Commissioners June 4, 1960 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, June 4, 1960, at ten o'clock a.m. in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, et. C. Members present: Chairman R. J. g. Hobbs, Commissioners C. D. Jones, Henry S. Walker, Donald Stanford and Donald McDade. Members absent: (tone The acting Cleric read the minutes of the three meetings held in Lay and same were approved. A delegation of leaders from the farming communities of the county headed b, William G. Dorsett presented a request that the Board include in their 1960-1961 budget funds a aura adequate to build an addition to the present County agriculture building. This delegations brought to the attention of the Board the matter of the crowded conditions presently found in the agricultural building and also pointed out the lack of centralization of the various agencies dealin,: with the agricultural problems in the county. Dr. 0. David Carving District Health Officer, appeared before the Board and informed them that a federal grant of 59,880.00 that had been previously allotted to his department since 1947 had now been withdrawn. Dr. Garvin was granted permission to amend his budgetary request of 530,000.00 on the first s.onday in July if this becomes necessary. Dr. Garvin also mentioned the need for a county vide plumbing inspection system and asked the Board to take this request under consideration. Ross Taylor of (rest Hillsboro came before the Board to request help in securing the paving of Plant Hill Avenue by the State Highway Commission. Chairman Hobbs advised Mr. Taylor to 'submit a road petition to the Board and they in turn would approved the petition and mail same to the District Highway Office. Parker, Welfare Supt. Bonnie B. David, Negro Home Demonstration A,;ent and Jessie 1YOwbridge, Home Demonstration Agent Chairman Hobbs requested the Clerk of Court to make an investigation in the surrounding counties and learn what situation prevailed there in regard to uncollected court fines. The following names were suggested as members of the County Planning Board. Mrs. B. B. Forrest Parker Roland Raymond Andrews Henry Hogan John Efland William Dorsett Mrs. Clyde Walker Bob Strayhorn Ira Gard Wiley Perry Yrs. J. D. Griffin Mrs. Quenton Patterson Bob Murray Mrs. Era Kirkland From the names suggested the following seven (7) were selected as members of the County Planning Board. Parker Roland Mrs. B. B. Forrest Raymond Andrews John Efland Bob Strayhorn Y'rs. J. D. Griffin Tuley Perry The members named were to be contacted and if they declined to serve on the Planning Board, it us understood, that their replacements would cone from the listed of suggested names. There being no further business to come before the Board of Commissioners this Board adjourned and immediately reconvened ?s a Board of !?qualization and Review.
